RES 23 JUN 15

173

Sir,

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG, 15th. May, 1915.

24450

Referring to my Despatch No. 175 of the 6th.

May relative to the establishment of Public Dispensaries, I have

the honour to request your approval of the grant of a small area

of land on a new reclamation at Yaumati, which has for some time

past been reserved for purposes of a dispensary for the boat popula▪

-tion of the Harbour.

2.

A temporary dispensary in a disused hulk has

hitherto been provided for the boat population, but the necessity for a permanent institution on shore has been recognised for some

time past; and the Chinese Community has provided sufficient funds

for building and upkeep.

3.

The site chosen, shown coloured red on the

enclosed plan, is valued as follows:-

Premium.

2,047 square feet @ 84.00 per square

foot ►

Crown Rent.

2,047 square feet @ 8600 per acre -

$28.00 per annum capitalized at 7%

or 14 years purchase

*

.88,188.00

400.00

Total value...78,588.00

It will be seen that the value is considerable; but it is

necessary to place the dispensary in Yaumati, which has for years past been the centre of the harbour population, and it is also

closure!

LEWIS HARCOURT, M.P..
